Social Media for Creative Types
One of the questions I get a lot in my line of business is how creative types – photographers, writers, artists, etc. – can use social media marketing to get more business. The stereotype is that creative types aren’t good at business, but this is far from true.
In fact, one of the things that I tell people that ask this is that they, if anyone, has a huge advantage when it comes to social media marketing. I had a Southwest landscape photographer ask me about social media and that’s exactly what I told him.
Why?
Simply because, they are used to thinking outside the box to begin with. If you take someone who’s been to business school, been in the corporate workplace and knows their way around business, they will have no problems telling you that social media is an integral part of business in today’s world.
But will they be really able to show you how to creatively use social media to further their business? Chances are, it’ll be difficult for them to come up with something concrete. This is because social media isn’t a traditional business concept. It takes a little bit of creativity and outside-the-box thinking to make sure you’re doing it in the most effective way.
So for the creative people out there, this is great news. Social media isn’t an old, stagnant business concept. It’s fresh, it’s new and it thrives on creative ideas. So instead of being turned off by the business part of social media, embrace the creative side and you’ll know exactly how it works!
